Good On Ya Boris!
I was quite sorry today to hear former Russian president Boris Yeltsin has died at the age of 76. Yes, he presided over the military action in Chechnya, which he accepted full responsibilty for. But, he also spectacularly booted out Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and became Russia’s first democratically elected president, which I think is what most people will remember him for. I waved at him once on Court Two at Wimbledon and he smiled and waved back. He seemed to do a lot of smiling, particularly after a few drinks. And he made other people smile. For example, he almost made former US president Bill Clinton wet himself at a press conference. And if he wasn’t intentionally making people laugh, people were certainly laughing with him anyway. Good on ya Boris!
