London 2012 Logo Revealed

My reaction when I saw for the first time the official logo for the London 2012 Olympics was one of horror. The above image includes it’s four variants in all their hideous would-be-cool-if-it-was-the-nineteen-eighties glory. I mean, honestly! What were they thinking? These logos don’t say ‘Olympics’ to me. They don’t say anything to me. They look like a three-year-old was left to be creative with some coloured paper and a pair of scissors. If you watch the video on the official website, the imagery is good while mixed with the live action scenes, but on their own, the logos look awkward and uncomfortable. They may meet the requirements set out by the marketing department, but they certainly don’t meet the requirements of representing the world’s most prestigious sporting event.
Reaction
- 83.28% of readers of the BBC Sport website are currently issuing the new logos with a wooden spoon, compared with 3.29% wh think it deserves a gold medal.
- A petition to change to logo has already received over
200020,000 signitures. - The logo is to be removed from the official website over fears it could provoke epileptic fits. This is getting farcical.
Tue 5 June: I’m beginning to feel a bit sorry for this logo and the Olympic organising commitee. It’s getting a blanket slating from everyone. I haven’t read a single positive comment on it yet.
