While in Paris, France...

Was I Wrong?

Call me crazy, but I’ve made a big call this evening. I’ve decided to ditch my own blog design which I spent a week designing from scratch, for a design that someone else did and that anyone else can use for their blog. In terms of aesthetics, Here To Geneva has just lost it’s uniqueness. But I think this bold move of mine is a good thing, and here’s why.

Take a look at the archive for the month of June. You’ll notice posts to the blog have slowed considerably. This is because I’ve been fussing over the design. The design has taken over as the most important thing of this blog. The truth is, it shouldn’t be. While the design I’ve just gotten rid of made this blog unique in terms of style, it’s my content that makes it the most unique and that should be my primary focus.

So, I’ve decided to select a pre-designed layout that doesn’t detract from my content. It’s the one you’re looking at now (unless you reading via your RSS reader). It’s simple, not fussy and very easily customisable. Having had a quick scoot about, there are a few bits that are wonky and the archives doesn’t work at all at the moment but it’s nothing I can’t fix over the next few days.

So what do you think? Should I have continued to slave over getting my design right? Or should I now go forward satisfied that my content is being presented in a clean, smart and functional layout? Drop your comments in the box!

Matt…this looks yukky! It’s not inviting and a bit uncool x

It’s alright. I agree at the moment. It’s the fonts that make it uninviting. I’ll have a tinker with the colours and typography.
