Music Simplified + Eminem Is Selfish
I’d just like to react to the news that Eminem is suing Apple for allegedly selling his music on iTunes. I fear this may not be very coherent, but here goes.
Is Eminem hard up? The man has sold seventy million albums worldwide, but still thinks he’s owed £36,900 for copyright infringement and £73,800 for every time the 70 or 80 songs in question have been downloaded for “damages”, whatever the hell that means! Who on earth calculated those figures? How can “damages” be quantified so exactly? Just what the hell HAS been damaged? Surely, only his reputation is being damaged from being so selfish! There are millions of people starving all over the world, and he’s taking a company to court for selling his music and earning him money?!? The man’s a moron!
I wish the music industry would begin to wise up. Selling music should be simple. Artists create a record because they want to, because they’ve been inspired and they want to share their talent and thoughts with others. Then, the industry sell the record, the artist earns a lot of money and they thank the millions who pay their wages. That should be it! Selling music should be all about the music. Because that’s all the people buying the music cares about. And it’s the people buying the music who keep the music industry going. So the buyers should be the one’s in charge.
If Eminem doesn’t want to sell his music, he shouldn’t have made it in the first place. But since he already has, rather then argue over money that he’s not going to need, but could change hundreds of lives, just ask Apple not to sell it. Again, it should be simple!
