Binary Solo

Yes, anyway, more on that later.
Hello and welcome to 2008. If you’ve been here before, you’ll know all about 2008, but if you’re new, like me, may I be the first to welcome you to this shiny new year. This is the big one. This is the one where the good stuff starts to happen. If you’ve been spending 2007 saying, “where’s the good stuff, man?” you needn’t worry any longer, because from this day forward, it’s gonna happen, man! World hunger? Solved! End to all wars? Done! Fizzy Ice Tea sold in the UK? Signs are good! Action on global climate change? You betcha! 2008 is going to be THE year. Just wait and see what wondrous things are about to happen.
I’ve spent my New Year’s Day wisely. I’ve emptied the bins, emptied the dishwasher, had lunch, cleaned and polished my desk and did high-speed skids on the kitchen floor. I’ve also watched a further two episodes of series one of HBO’s brilliant Flight of the Conchords, a critically acclaimed comedy about Bret and Jermaine, two kiwis who make up New Zealand’s former fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo, living in New York and trying to to hit the big time. Of course, the real Flight of the Conchords, made up coincidentally by two kiwis of the same name (in fact, they’re the same people) have already hit the big time, having released an album a few years back and with another due in 2008. If you haven’t caught Flight of the Conchords (the TV series) and you like dry, witty and hilarious tunes and dialogue, I’d suggest you grab yourself a copy of the DVD. I did, and I’m loving it. Incidentally, the “binary solo” at the beginning of this post will make much more sense once you’ve watched a couple of episodes.
At the weekend, I started planning my next trip. Later this year, I’m going to do Scandinavia. Most of the trip will be spent in Norway, but since I’ll be in the region, I’ll also be popping in to Sweden and Denmark. I’ll probably do Finland another time. I’m not quite sure in which order I’ll be doing things or how long I’ll take to do them yet. I know I want to go to Bergen, Flam, Oslo, Gothenburg and Copenhagen and that part of the trip will be via sleeper train. I just need to iron out the details. If you know anyone who has done a similar trip, point them in my direction as I could do with some suggestions. Failing that, my Rough Guide to Norway is in the post which should shed some light on my, as usual, muddled itinerary.
Thanks very much for visiting Here To Geneva during 2007 and for continuing to visit in 2008. I hope this year will bring you peace and happiness.
